Tobacco Addiction Recovery Program

The tobacco recovery program I use is grounded in the addiction model.

It recognizes that this is the most powerful addiction currently in widespread use among our population, that thousands of people die each year from it's use and that in order to have any real hope of helping  you I must  adopt an   approach that is serious, supportive , long term and specifically adapted to your needs.

The first order of business is to outline the nature of the process of becoming smoke free and to establish clearly that this is not a success - failure venture. The fear of failure is so common among tobacco addicts that it often prevents us from any real attempt at stopping.

The fear of withdrawal is the next major issue to be approached. The development of insight into the nature of our own addiction, and the offering of long term support generates the trust necessary to become comfortable taking this most dreaded step.

Making the Transition

The Phases of Counseling and Recovery

While the addiction model program outline is used as the prime guide throughout the process, the underlying assumption that everyone is different and their needs are unique is truly the prime operating principle.
